About our services

Testing

We specialise in testing the functionality and safety of:

  • 230-240V electrical equipment and appliances;

  • 3 phase connections; and

  • Emergency lighting and exit signs

Emergency Exit Signs and Emergency Lighting

We can also provide battery and functionality testing of emergency exit signs and emergency lights.

Repairs

Sometimes during testing, we identify that a power cord or plug is damaged and is unusable without repairs.  If you require, we can carry out repairs and replace damaged cords and plugs for 240V appliances on the spot, meaning there is minimal disruption to your business.

Tagging and record keeping

We provide tagging of the cord of the tested appliances and recording all the legally required details on the tag including the results of the test, and the date of the next test.  However, for some appliances, you may also want a written record of the testing and testing results for your business.  In this case we can provide logbooks, or an electronic record, or can provide data if you have an in-house WHS system.

Requirements to test and tag

Under NSW Work Health and Safety legislation, a person conducting business must ensure that risks associated with the use of electrical equipment are managed, with the regulations specifying when and how electrical equipment is to be tested and the types of records required to be kept, including tagging.

In summary, all electrical appliances are required to be inspected for damage before use for the first time, with electrical appliances supplied with electricity through an electrical socket, requiring periodic inspection and testing by a competent person where the operating conditions are likely to result in damage to the equipment.

Work Health and Safety in NSW is legislated under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017, and administered and enforced by SafeWork NSW, an NSW Government agency.

SafeWork NSW has developed a Code of Practice for Managing Electrical Risks to help businesses understand their obligations.

If you have specific questions about your legal obligations under the WHS legislation please speak to SafeWork NSW.
